At the heart of Leo Ferdinando Demetz’s artistic work lies the human being—both in terms of individual experience and in relation to societal and social developments. His multifaceted body of work ranges from mystical and fantastical visual worlds to sculptures of great symbolic depth and thematic conciseness.

Demetz’s figures speak to fundamental human conditions and inner conflicts. Vulnerability, introspection, and inner strength are particularly concentrated in the expressive faces of his sculptures. His works provide direct access to existential questions while reflecting the complexity of human existence in a changing society.

With extraordinary technical precision and a profound understanding of anatomy, Demetz works with solid wood, transforming the material into figures with an impressive physical presence. In doing so, he combines traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary, distinctive formal language. The precise rendering of the bodies and faces lends his sculptures a special emotional intensity and a striking vitality.
