RABEAH MASHINCHI (Teheran, 1974)

With intense, colourful mass of swirling brushstrokes, Mashinchi realise her highly, expressive artworks. The result are dramatic, strong record of gesture and erasure.

The action of the artist's hand as it makes marks and paint over can be clearly traced. The artistic process is the artist main theme and content. She draws her inspiration from what she has experienced and seen. Mashinchi's artworks are mental spaces in which she sets those signals and signs that represent her world means.

Her principal concern is to herself feelings and emotions: she is calling attention to artmaking as an exhilarating, physical process. The entire paintings are perfectly flat, and each apparently gestural brushstroke has laboriously well thought through. Working quickly, she distils images to their essential's elements.
