Egon Digon – Illusion and Irritation
Egon Digon’s artistic work is a fascinating journey into the world of geometric forms—a realm he deliberately dissolves, questions, and redefines. With great sensitivity, he explores the possibilities of distortion, transforming wood into powerful sculptural works that challenge the viewer’s perception and expectations.
Through the intentional deformation of geometric structures, Digon breaks their formal rigidity and endows them with an unexpected, almost organic softness. His profound engagement with line, edge, and volume gives rise to a distinctive visual language in which precision and sensuality exist in a dynamic balance.
The masterfully carved sculptures reflect exceptional craftsmanship and a deep attention to detail. Upon closer inspection, a complex interplay of density and void unfolds, of smooth transitions and sharp cuts. The fragmentation and reconfiguration of geometry generate striking visual illusions that continually set the viewer’s gaze in motion.
Digon’s works both irritate and fascinate: they resist a single, fixed interpretation and continuously open new perspectives. By dissolving the apparent rigidity of wood as a material, fluid and sometimes biomorphic forms emerge, lifting the material from its weight and imbuing it with an unexpected sense of lightness.
In the ongoing evolution of his work, Egon Digon consciously embraces change. It becomes the driving force of his artistic practice—an impulse for renewal, for open and self-determined thinking, and for a continually renewed and dynamic creative process.
